The Standby Room at the San Diego Airport

I was the Artist-in-Residence at the San Diego Airport for six months in 2018. I worked with playwright Samuel Valdez and DJ Kuttin Kandi to slowly build a “waiting room” with airport visitors. We asked them “What are you really waiting for?” and had them write their answers onto fabric squares that were sewn into an actual waiting room that they could sit and wait in and talk to us through a confessional screen. In the last month, audiences looked into the waiting room to witness performance re-enactments of stories of waiting we witnessed.
