September 11th, 2010 → Leave a comment
Hi everyone, I’m gearing up for my first ensemble piece! I’m hiring 3 male/ male-identified performers who will be part of intensive rehearsals. I’ve hired Matt Johnstone as my casting director. Please pass on the following casting notice to the most amazing performers you know.
Hello Performers and Actors,
Acclaimed Performance Artist Kristina Wong is looking for three Los Angeles based male performers to workshop in Los Angeles and perform in the Houston world premiere of her new ensemble theatrical extravaganza, CAT LADY. Ms. Wong will be working with veteran NY/Austin theatre director Shawn Sides (recent director at Humana Festival of New American Plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville)
Friday, September 24, 2010
Saturday, September 25, 2010
*Callbacks on Sunday, September 26, details TBD
Times and Los Angeles Location TBA
ROLES TO BE CAST:
Two Pick Up Artists, Oliver the Cat
This casting is open to all male, transgender male, and male identified performers, with a particular interest in male identified performers of Asian descent. All ages and sizes, and cultural backgrounds welcome. As part of the workshop/rehearsal process, performers will study Pick Up Artist Technique (how to ‘pick up’ singles in a social setting).
We’re looking for collaborative and physical performers with strong, vivid voices, and diverse theatrical and performance backgrounds – including experimental theatre, interdisciplinary, political, physical, and community based performance work, improv comedy, performers who can break the fourth wall, and who can improvise work with physical movement.
This is a unique, paid opportunity to collaboratively workshop and perform with a fun, vibrant, internationally known performer and director, and tour nationally in a humorous and entertaining ensemble theatrical project.
CAT LADY is a darkly comic interdisciplinary ensemble performance piece bending the parallel worlds of two pathetically lonely personas living at the margins of gender and society— unmarried cat ladies and male pick-up artists.
CAT LADY has received support from the Mapfund, Center for Cultural Innovation, and a Creation Fund from the National Performance Network.
Monthly full day rehearsal dates and informal public readings that will happen in October, November, December, and/or January (total of three rehearsals and three readings across 4 months). Dates to be coordinated with performer’s availability.
3- 4 week rehearsal period latter half of January, February, and March (exact dates TBA, most likely between January 17- February 13 and March 14-20).
World Premiere in Houston, March 21-27, at Diverseworks.
Second performance in San Francisco, likely Fall 2011, at ODC Dance Theater.
Possible subsequent engagements to be announced.
All rehearsals, readings, and performance weeks offer a paid stipend plus travel, housing and per diem. During performance weeks, in addition to performance responsibilities, actors will participate in community outreach teaching. Please email for more info.
